The road N° 231 between the City of Marquise in the Pas de Calais Department (62) and the village of Caffiers (62) is called “The Road of Quarries”.
From either side of the road, three companies operate limestone extraction from quarries so called Les Carrières du Boulonnais, Les Carrières de la Vallée heureuse and Les Carrières du Stinkal . Even if they are very close geographically, each quarry exploits a different limestone in terms of color, quality and use : marble, sand, lime, aggregates for road and concrete are products that come out of the bowels of the earth every day for all industries in the area.
The quantities to be implemented for Calais Port 2015 works are so important that the 3 quarries joined forces to provide required quantities in all range of products.
Nearly 6,000 tons for the land part are carried by road every day to Calais Port 2015 works site. These products are stored, then used to build the breakwater and thereafter for roads.
