Biodiversity is part of the Calais Port 2015 project environmental monitoring to have an improved compatibility between port infrastructures and marine biodiversity.
The Design and Construction Joint Venture has thought about using new constructions as support to reinforce habitats and living spaces for larvae, recruits and juvelines of the year, the three stages of development that experience the highest predation. Mortality is thus reduced, the effect produced is an enrichment of the diversity of species and their populations.
Ecocean Company is specialized in ecological engineering in the marine environment and works with the Design and Construction Joint Venture to carry out this installation. A range of solutions called Biohut® is currently being tested in the existing port in order to anticipate the port equipment as a whole. There is a Biohut® in the Maison du Projet et de l’Emploi, displayed in front of the « Environment » panel outlining the environmental measures for Calais Port 2015.
